The Young Women’s Choral Projects of San Francisco transforms the lives of young women through exceptional artistry in choral performance, and brings the expressive power of their music to the community, the nation, and the world. Through YWCP, young women ages 4-18 from diverse socio-ethnic backgrounds find their voices as singers, artists and women in a nurturing environment that empowers them to achieve artistic and personal excellence. YWCP offers two introductory music classes for girls ages 4-8 - open to all! - as well as an auditioned program for singers in grades 2-12.
YWCP's new Artistic Director, Canadian Matthew Otto is an innovative leader, educator, and collaborator. With unparalleled dedication to choral music, Matthew strives to develop artistic excellence, vocal integrity, and empowerment in singers of all ages. Over the past 12 years at the Toronto Children's Chorus, Matthew has co-conducted the TCC’s Chamber Choir on tour to Russia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, USA, Bahamas, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, as well as at the 2017 World Choral Symposium in Barcelona. The TCC has also premiered his treble arrangements and compositions, and Matthew has served the President of Choirs Ontario, a board member of Choral Canada, and is a founding member of the Bridge Choral Collective.
Dolce & Arietta Singers Director Samantha Maas-Baldwin has been teaching music in the Bay Area for over 15 years. After graduating from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with an emphasis in classical voice, Samantha earned her California Teaching Credential and became the director of music at San Marin High School in northern Marin, leading many choral and instrumental ensembles. In the spring of 2014, Samantha earned a Master of Music in Music Education with an emphasis on Kodály from Holy Names University. While earning her Master’s, Samantha also studied advanced vocal pedagogy with Eric Howe. As an elementary and middle school music educator and Kodály specialist, Samantha has worked as a general music teacher and choir director for children’s choirs and public schools in the North and East Bay.
The Young Women’s Chorus of San Francisco is the premier ensemble of the Young Women’s Choral Projects. In just 8 years, the Young Women’s Chorus won four competitive, national awards: the American Prize in Choral Performance; the Dale Warland Singers Commission Award from Chorus America and American Composers Forum; the ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award; and the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence from Chorus America. The ensemble has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Jake Heggie, Frederica von Stade, Christine Brewer, Kronos Quartet, Kitka, Charles Dutoit, Esa-Pekka Salonen and others, and regularly sings with the San Francisco Symphony.
