The popular Camp MAC is back! Campers will learn the stylistic nuances of journalistic writing through engaging, interactive activities and learn how to write relevant stories in real-time — exactly like a real journalist. By the end of the week, campers will have produced material for a physical magazine and had tons of fun doing it.
Camp MAC is at Palo Alto High School! Campers will work with our engaging counselor staff, who are members of Paly’s nationally recognized journalism program and are trained to make Camp MAC a fun and memorable experience for your child.
The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with an hour lunch break around noon (lunch is provided). Campers will spend the camp day learning about journalism sectors, such as news writing, sports writing, and opinion writing, and then will write their own stories that will be published in their own magazine by the end of the week. Campers will get the chance to participate in fun activities such as Spikeball tournaments, entertaining skits, and more.
Camp MAC prides itself on being a student-run program. The leadership team and camp counselors all have experience in Paly's journalism program and bring valuable insight to our camp.
Our leadership team is selected from Palo Alto High School's 14 publications through an application process which is reviewed by journalism advisors and the previous Camp MAC leadership team. The rising juniors will plan the curriculum, train counselors and oversee camp activities to make this year's Camp MAC the best it can be.
