About
Wushu Central
Wushu Central has been offering classes in San Jose, California since 2003. We are a family-oriented Martial Arts school specializing in teaching Kung Fu (also called Wushu) to men, women, and children of all ages.

Wushu Central offers a number of programs for physical fitness, self defense, and character development. We offer the most effective, widely-recognized training techniques and programs in the Bay Area, such as our Award-Winning Martial Arts Curriculum, National Done With Bullying Program for Children, and several Nationally Recognized Self-Defense Programs for children, teens, adults, and families. We have had the honor of being voted the best Karate school in Silicon Valley for 10 years by readers of Bay Area Parent magazine.

Wushu Central has an outstanding reputation, not only in teaching Martial Arts skills to both children and adults, but also in contributing to our community through charitable donations, free community workshops, and assisting in our local schools. We are much more than just a regular Karate studio! Our program is committed to helping children of all ages develop both physically and mentally. We give children a head start in life, and teens and adults the jump-start they need to be more successful now and in the future.

Our classes are taught by expert Kung Fu instructors who care about their students. They help students to learn and improve through positive support and encouragement, not through intimidation! Please feel free to ask your instructor any questions that will assist in your decision to make our studio your best place to train. Come and join our family and remember: teaching and helping you is the reason we are here.

Wushu Central serves the San Francisco South Bay area, including San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Milpitas, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino, Los Altos, and surrounding cities.

Sifu (Master) David Chang, winner of the U.S. Nationals in Wushu in 2001, has appeared several times in publications such as Qigong Kungfu Magazine, the Chinese World Journal, and the San Jose Mercury News, and on television shows such as NBC News and the Discovery Channel. He is one of the United State's foremost experts in Wushu, has coached a number of national Wushu champions, and owns Wushu Central, one of the nation's most successful Wushu school.

Sifu Chang emphasizes in each class that students must develop a "black belt attitude" - a winning mind-set that perseveres and refuses to give up regardless of how difficult the task may be. He also stresses the development of courtesy and respect, positive thinking, and goal setting skills.

It is a program which works: Young students proudly tell Sifu Chang about difficult situations they encountered and how they overcame them with determination. Parents remark that after beginning classes at Wushu Central, their children complete their homework assignments without being reminded and their grades have improved.

(Kung Fu for Kids)
October 31, 2020 - Kyla Wasserberger
My daughter was nervous about being in a class with other children, but after 4 months she can't wait for "Kung Fu Day". I've noticed a definite improvement in her focus. She also seems really motivated and I hear the instructors talking to the kids every class about attitude. It appears to work!

After just a few months, we could see a dramatic difference! I was concerned about my son Evan’s ability to listen, especially after watching him literally “run circles” around his classmates at gymnastics class. I decided to try Wushu Central (since focus and discipline were what my son needed). I signed up for the free trial class and was amazed at how well he reacted to the coach’s instructions. He would start to look away and the coach would bring him right back in focus. After just a few months, we could see a dramatic difference in his other classes and at home. I am so glad I found this!

I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you the wonderful changes I have seen in my daughter since she started taking classes at Wushu Central. At a recent Physical Fitness test at her school, she reached the level of “Presidential”. This level represents the highest level of physical fitness a student can achieve. She has been trying to reach this goal for years. I believe that the Wushu classes were instrumental in giving her the desire and training to reach this level of physical excellence. In addition, Wushu Central has helped our daughter gain more confidence and become more outgoing. Just recently I was pleasantly surprised to hear my daughter entered a Halloween costume contest at her local school on her own accord. Normally our daughter would not have the confidence to enter such a contest, and would most definitely refuse to parade in front of such a large audience.
