Call of the Sea

Call of the Sea's on-the-water educational programs will provide exciting opportunities to sail on San Francisco Bay, actively participate in adventures outdoors and engage in seamanship & marine biology learning experiences.  There will also be shoreside creative and project based educational activities.  This program will meet the needs of parents looking for educational alternatives due to the impact of the COVID- 19  virus on schools 

Goals

  1. Meet demand for youth programming in absence of/as alternative to school programming

  2. Provide opportunities for youth to explore the Bay environment thru sailing

  3.  Provide healthy learning opportunities, social  interactions and opportunities to grow for youth who have “sheltered in place”

Sailing Program Definition                 

Call of the Sea will provide the education community the following experiences:

Youth Education Program 

    • 3 week program

    •  12 student maximum “pod” 

    • 2-3 hours sailing, 3-4 days per week 

    • Full Day or Half Day programs available

    • Grades 4-6


Program Sessions: 

  • September 7 - September 25, 2020

  • September 28 - October 16, 2020

  • October 19 - November 6, 2020 

The program will operate at 9 am- 4 pm each weekday from the Corps of Engineers Bay Model Visitor Center in Sausalito, CA . 

       Curriculum

  • Seamanship & Navigation

  • Marine Science - Project based learning integrating COTS science lesson plans 

    • Plankton

    • Marine Debris

    • Marine Mammals

  • Nautical Heritage aligned with grade specific curriculum

  • Creative activities:  Art, Journaling, Crafts and building, Metalwork Demos at Marin Made

Full Day

$1,350 $450/week

Partial Scholarships are available for those who cannot otherwise afford the program.  Support ranges from 25%-50% of the fee.

ALL ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED WILL BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH MARIN COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH ORDERS
