My son had a blast at camp! Alonzo, the camp master, is just amazing. He's so dedicated, caring, certified, and super capable. My son had a beneficial time during the two weeks at camp this summer, and it really boosted his skills, fitness, meditation power, and self-belief. He left the camp with real techniques that as well tailored for kids by showing compassion to others. We wish we could have stayed for another week. Thanks a lot, Master Alonzo !! We will definitely join every summer.

We could not have asked for a more well thought-out, necessary program that addresses how complex bullying is, what it can look like, and different ways to respond. Master Alonzo is fantastic with the kids, and it is obvious he has put in the work to address children holistically.

The week culminated in a choreographed fight sequence with each of the children getting a role and board breaks. Master Alonzo is easily able to account for different levels of martial arts experience (from none to advanced). It was a fun show and my kiddo was very proud of his week.

My son absolutely loved his experience with this camp. He learned anti bullying techniques but also how to play chess, rock climbing, and even broke a board with his bare hands. This camp gave him the confidence and techniques that will stick with him. I highly recommend it to help kids build their self esteem. Master Alonzo is amazing with the kids. An amazing program helping kids navigate possibly difficult situations.

My 8 yo son joined Anti bullying camp last spring break and asked to join Master Alonzo's martial arts school, and he never looked back. This is one sports that he looks forward to weekly now, he goes 2-3 times a week! Alonzo does a great job engaging the kids and he recently brought in a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu master to teach the kids!

My daughter loves Upstander and Master Alonzo. I appreciate his background in child development and teaching. He is clear and firm with love and compassion. My daughter always comes home showing me new things she learned and feeling really confident in herself. Def recommend!

This is wonderful program with kids learning valuable life lessons/morals and being empowered.

The instructor was late every day and the pupils were instructed to wait at the pizza place until he arrived. I would have given it a pass, but the camp never opened on time the whole week my son went. I was late to work waiting for Richard. My son had fun, but for $450/week and an additional $10 bucks a day for pizza lunch, one would think they were paying for a level of professionalism that I did not witness.

Our daughters have been students of Master Alonzo’s for nearly 5 months now and the difference in their overall confidence, drive, and ambition are massive! We especially like his friendly approach and understanding of the bullying our kids potentially face now and in their adult lives and how to handle, resist, and avoid escalation. Outstanding!

As someone who has been fortunate enough to attend their Upstander Kids Anti-Bullying Camp, I can confidently say that this is an experience that every child should have.

From the moment I walked into the camp, I was struck by the level of professionalism and attention to detail that was evident. The instructors were friendly and approachable, but also incredibly knowledgeable and skilled in their craft. I immediately felt at ease and confident that I was in good hands.
Throughout the camp, we learned a wide range of martial arts techniques that were specifically designed to help us defend ourselves against bullies and other potential threats. The instructors were incredibly patient and encouraging, taking the time to explain each technique in detail and ensuring that we all understood how to execute them properly.
But what really stood out to me was the emphasis that was placed on being an upstander. Rather than simply teaching us how to fight back, the instructors taught us how to be leaders in our communities and stand up for what is right. We learned about the power of empathy, active listening, and effective communication, and were encouraged to use these skills to diffuse potentially volatile situations before they escalated.

Anti-Bullying Camp is important for all children of all ages. This camp teaches children to not only respect and value others. It teaches children to have respect for themselves and while practicing empathy and patience.
This camp also includes, dance, sports, chess playing and all types of exercise. It really is a life changing camp for kids!

My daughter has attended Anti-Bullying Camp for a couple of years now. She returns home each time smiling! She absolutely loves this camp. This camp is very special as it balances discipline, fun, learning, socializing and plenty of exericise. This camp is so important for all children and I am so pleased we have a place where my daughter feels at home. Many lessons learned and friendships made.

Master Alonzo has a gift for teaching kids in the art of self defense. His knack for connecting with children is bar none and incredible to watch in person. He does real life scenarios to help kids deal with bullies or anyone bothering them and teaching the kids to stand up for themselves, speak loudly and defend themselves in a firm way. a MUST for any parent with a child in the vulnerable years of school. There is a reason why Master Alonzo's studio has 5 stars on yelp, review after review. Highly recommended.

The teacher is really special! The children explained that they should learn from the teacher during the summer vacation! Children are very happy every day and look forward to going to school every day.

The kids enjoyed the program, but were a bit vague on what exactly they'd learned during the session. They're only six and five, respectively, so that's understandable. I think it would've helped if the parents had been given a handout explaining some of the anti-bullying strategies taught with some tips on how to reinforce them at home.

My daughter was not so sure about a Martial Art camp but once she met Alonzo I knew she would feel comfortable. The second day, she was so excited for camp. Mr. Alonzo makes martial art a breeze and super fun for the kids. Not only he is a master in his sport but he knows how to talk and understands each child and how to ensure they have fun while using discipline. We feel very lucky and grateful to have met him and we will definitely do other classes or camp again.

My son was brutally bullied (physically and emotionally/socially) in transitional kindergarten and Master Alonzo empowered him to put a stop to it on his own when adult intervention was lacking and/or failed. Master Alonzo built my son's confidence, strength and self-respect, and brought back his happiness when I couldn't. I am forever grateful (understatement of the universe). The bullying is long in the past now, and my son (now 7) has continued to benefit greatly from Master Alonzo (and his summer camps and after-school classes) for the past three years. Master Alonzo is a top-notch, highly-skilled martial artist and an equally impressive teacher. He connects with the students through both humor and serious compassionate talks as he teaches them not just martial arts and how to physically defend themselves and others, but also mindfulness, respect (of self and others), empathy, communication, self-discipline, etc. Master Alonzo's classes and camps are so valuable (and fun), and he, himself, is an exquisite example of every great quality you could want for your child. His influence in not only my son's life but in our family life, has been far reaching and so very positive.

Master Alonzo teaches my sin since 2014. He is an amazing teacher and mentor. Teaches kids an unique way , so much caring, attention, and knowledge. Kids love him. We appreciate everything he has done for our son.

Master Alonzo has a gift for teaching kids and young adults, due to his teaching methods and his patience. I have been to several martial arts studios over the years but most of them don’t really tailor their programs around children’s needs. Master Alonzo on the other hand tailors his classes around the children and age group of the class and gives every child the same amount of attention, making sure everyone feels included. He is also very humble and open to feedback.

My children studied with Richard Alonzo from the age of 3 until just before their 12th birthdays. The only reason we stopped was that we relocated abroad. Master Alonzo has a unique gift with young students and managed to teach all three of my children the basics and much more. Even now, whenever we return to Los Angeles, we stop in.

I have known Richard Alonzo for well over 20 years and if you train with him, you are training with the best. He is wonderful with children (adults, too) and his anti-bullying program is crucial in our society today. Alonzo Martial Arts is a school and program of integrity.

Richard Alonzo is a fantastic teacher. He is patient, respectful, and kind and teaches his students to incorporate those qualities into their training. Any student who is lucky enough to be able to take his classes will gain a lot in both skill and wisdom. Highly recommend for kids as well. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to take his classes.

Richard Alonzo, owner and head instructor at Alonzo Martial Arts is a genius when it comes to working with both kids and adults. He takes time to study a student's individual strengths and then beautifully blends those strengths with the wonderful mental and physical disciplines of Tae Kwon Do and Ecrima, all while keep it great fun! I cannot recommend his school highly enough...for all ages 4-94 !

I do not know how Master Alonzo does it. Give him three children to teach or twenty five, they all seem to love him and love the combination of discipline, respect and learning that he gives to them. And they learn to give back the respect to him and to each other. My eight year old granddaughter came home from the first day of camp and I asked, "What did you do all day?" "We had FUN," she said. "That's good, and what did you do to have fun?" I asked. She looked at me with a certain pity for my lack of comprehension. "We had fun, and then we did something else and had fun, and then we kept on doing things and having fun." She loved it, was never bored (which for her was a bit of a miracle), and she wants to do it again. I had to drive four hours a day in rush hour traffic to get her to and from Master Alonzo's class. It was worth every minute. I think she will always look back on her classes with him as being part of the joy and achievement of her childhood.

He's great with the kids and I think it's a productive day for my son.

My daughter just went for one day of camp and had an awesome day! She has taken an afterschool class with Master Alonzo so I knew she enjoyed his classes, but I wasn't sure how she would do for a whole camp day. The first thing she said afterward was that she wanted to go back the next day! Master Alonzo is so great with the kids and really seems to strike a good balance between serious teaching and enough silliness to make sure it is FUN. Thanks so much.....we will definitely consider the summer camp as an option.

Highly recommend! Richard is such an amazing teacher and our daughter had a total blast with him and the other kids. He's fun, and funny, and gives amazing life skills that the kids really take in and thoroughly enjoy.

The martial arts teacher, Richard Alonzo, is phenomenal. My son trust him and wants to excel in his classes. I have seen that Richard truly cares and as result kids really respect him. Richard is into the art so the genuine attitude and care is visible. Kids love genuine people so that is why they love Richard. My son is excited about the camp.

Though I am not a direct student of Master Richard Alonzo, he has been my training partner, friend, and brother for the past 8 years. If you are looking for an high quality instructor for your children, youself, or family members, I highly recommend Master Alonzo as an instuctor. He is highly skilled and knowledgeable in the Martial Arts.
