The Camp Chrysalis Big Sur session is an ideal, 8-day introduction to camping outdoors. Sleeping beneath the majestic redwoods in Pfeiffer State Park, we are embraced by their ecology.
We explore the Big Sur River retelling the story of how it shaped the geology around us while learning about the riparian Californian flora. We learn about invasive plants and animal species like crawdads and spend an afternoon learning where crawdads live and how to hunt and cook them. We hike up the river in search of glorious swim holes and learn to ride the currents in between huge boulders. We spend a day at the beach building driftwood palaces, swimming in a lagoon, sliding down natural water slides, and taking in the beauty of the headlands. At base camp, we create wooden jewelry, design our own T-shirts, and sketch in our Bare Book journals. On some evenings, we might venture into an open field to play games and stargaze.
All sessions leave at Sunday at 9:00 AM from 2434 McKinley Ave, (off Dwight Way) in Berkeley. The return time is Saturday at 4:00 PM.
