Overview

Beginner LEGO® Robot Classes, Live Interactive Fun Programming and Building Robots to Solve Problems Around the House and Beyond

Personalized instruction blended with social time and self-paced building/programming time means your student will be happy and engaged throughout the day.

Instructor to student ration is 1 to 5 (or less) with one on one attention when needed. Fun video demonstrations (accessed on-demand via an online portal) empower kids to learn real building and programming techniques on their schedule. Kids learn to become self-motivated inventors, designers, developers, and engineers. There is truly no better way to prepare them for a love of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Our mission is to help kids develop their skills with LEGO® robotics to the point where it can become true creative outlet, a profoundly educational hobby/obsession, and a path to future learning in STEM fields. We’ve seen this happen for hundreds of kids, and we know that your student can get there too. We’ve devised a system of Levels to help support students’ development, and to make the process fun. This Level system also makes it easy to pick up where you left off when you show up for a second week of LEGO® Robot Camp.

Fun with Friends: We allow one registration per robot/computer/household/age group (Jr or Sr) since the Instructors are helping your child successfully program and build the robot. Your child can have siblings and friends work together on one robot/computer for one registration free. If two computers/robots, then two registrations. Invite friends and/or relatives that work well with your child (and you have not been social distancing from family).  Please make sure your child has a bin of LEGOs as well as a LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robot or Robot Academy Arduino LEGO Robot when camp starts every day.

Key to Success with Online: Our programs teach kids how to become real-world problem-solvers and innovators using the LEGO®

MINDSTORMS robotics set. Our instructors, called Robot Geniuses, will be working with your child(ren) interactively to build and program their robot to do their work for them around the house (clean their room, feed the pet/stuffed animal, etc). We are SO excited to teach your child creative problem solving. Our Robot Geniuses have won Robotics and Invention competitions and are our Robotics Rock Stars. It is required that your child have a LEGO Robot set so that they can build awesome robot to do their work for them (it is worth the investment). Your child can rent a robot from us if you live in Ohio.

There are different options for the robot required for the camp:

o Arduino LEGO® Robot (purchase from Robot Academy for $125 for complete set - Shipped to You!

The Makeblock mBot Arduino robot comes with color and distance sensors, and can be driven via remote control or programmed using Scratch or Python. Thanks to our custom modifications, you can use any LEGO (or LEGO Technic/Mindstorms) parts you already own to expand your robot’s capabilities!  The set will arrive prior to your online program, and it’s yours to keep!  Our programs ignite a passion for independent exploration and inventing, so you can expect that your student will still be using the robot long after our sessions have concluded.

Other LEGO Robots that can be used for this online class (students grouped by the type of robot)

o LEGO® MINDSTORMS EV3 number 31313

o LEGO® MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor Set number 51515
o LEGO® MINDSTORMS NXT (older set on eBay or Craig's List or borrow from friend)

o LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 Core Set 5003400 at LEGO Education

Hands-On Engineering to Help Around the House!

Turn
your child’s love of LEGO into a passion for STEM (science, technology,
engineering and math). Instructors inspire students to become
engineers, programmers, inventors and entrepreneurs.  Our founders won
the First Lego League World Championship two years in a row (first place
in robotics out of 10,000 teams) and have also won numerous national
invention and science competitions. Robot Academy opened over 14 years
ago and has taught thousands of young students. Many of our camp
graduates have gone on to win their own international championships.
It’s the ultimate STEM experience.

This camp includes:

  • INTERACTIVE:
Personalized instruction blended with social time and self-paced
building/programming time means your student will be happy and engaged
throughout the week.  Instructor to student ratio is 1 to 6 with 1 to 1
    attention when needed.
  • AWARD CEREMONY: Students
build and program robots with the help of Virtual Robot Geniuses. When
needed, students receive individual attention in a breakout room to
ensure success. Students love earning points towards trophies by
completing robotics challenges. The Award Ceremony is on the last day
during the last 30 minutes. Our goal is to build confidence in every
    student by celebrating their accomplishments.
  • T-Shirt: Students receive a Robot Academy t-shirt with their trophy after camp.
  • Gift Certificate mailed to you
  • AGES: Students
grouped according to age and experience. Jr and Sr camps at different
times:  Jr Camp (7 to 9 years old) and Sr Camp (10 to 15 years old).
Students under 7 years old can participate in Jr camp with a parent
    available to help.

As a parent I had some issues with the organization of the procedures. That said, my son loved the camp.
