In-person camp in Early August, 2022 for our 11 year old boy. 9am-3pm. It is the only camp he did not enjoy, all summer. Normally, he is very engaged and loves art and craft activities when at school or home. If I had read the Yelp reviews instead of the Activity Hero reviews, I wouldn't have scheduled it. The latest Yelp reviews were more like what my kid experienced. In our case, the camp was just not a good fit, but you will not get a refund if that happens and you don't want to finish the week. So make sure it is what you want. Bear in mind the camp is at an art studio in a mall, and not at a school or churchyard, so there is no place for kids to blow off steam during breaks. He did come home with canvases, but frankly, I have seen better and more inspired work from him in 2nd and 3rd grade. Especially at this price. If you do this camp, maybe call the directors to get an idea of what the kids are doing day to day and what a daily schedule and the art looks like, because, if your kid starts to go and they don't like it and want to not finish the week, The camp can't give you a refund, because they say they had to turn away other campers to allow your kid to go. After two days, in a 5-day week, we are done, and out 3/5 of $460.

This was the second year my kids attended a week long camp at CD's Art Studio and from what I heard from my kids, this second year was sadly a miss. They did enjoy last year though. The campers were instructed by high schoolers this year and really didn't get instructions on technique or how to improve their paintings. I'm sure the high schoolers were very talented but just not ready to instruct a class full of kids. There was a lot 'sitting around time' with the campers doing nothing.

Dear Mi-young Bae. I was real sorry to hear about your experience at our studio. Reviews give us a chance to be a better studio. I looked at the video footage of that week in question and I saw exactly what you are talking about. From what I saw, it was a Thursday and Friday where the kids were doing a lot of sitting around. My daughter took painting lessons at CD's Art Studio, and it was a really great experience so I was disappointed that our camp experience was not positive. The camp was advertised as engaging in a lot of different types of art, but all they did was paint and do one tissue paper collage. My girls enjoyed the painting and the skills they learned but they were disappointed there was no fused glass jewelry, picture frames, plates and night lights as advertised. The other issue was that most of the kids there were younger than my daughters and the camp usually mixed the two groups together. My 8 and 11 year old did not enjoy having to do art with 5 year olds who were repeatedly admonished by the counselors for not listening. This camp is not cheap and we will not be returning.

Hi there and thank you for taking the time to review us. You were right about combining the classes on Monday. Unfortunately things happen at the last minute and one of our employees became ill. Since we had a small class size we felt it would be ok if we combine the class given that they would be able to paint at their level, 5-15 years. So I do apologize about the Monday that this occurred. By Tuesday and the following days, we were able to offer two teachers to accommodate two different age groups.
As for the projects, I can certainly understand the confusion as to what projects would be done. On our website outlines all of the potential projects we possibly could do during camp. The week before the camp we always send out a flyer showing all of the projects we WOULD be doing for that week. This flyer was sent out on 9/24. It sounds like you maybe did not get this flyer or it went to spam.
During that week, we did tissue art, drawing and painting. Painting was predominate this week at the request of the group. At our studio, we have the finest of teachers with amazing skills. Our studio has won best of camps for 5 consecutive years. We are one in 35 in the country.
So you can imagine how badly we feel that your experience has left you disappointed. That is something we certainly do not want to hear. However, we learn much from our reviews. In this case, I learned to communicate more with the parents to keep them informed.
