Hello, we have a 4:1 camper-to-counselor ratio within a Zoom, however, they are in larger rooms with around 15-20 campers and 5 counselors. During individual work periods, we break into smaller breakout rooms with one counselor and a handful of students to offer more individualized instruction and help. -

Hello, yes, our curriculum will be delivered live, and counselors will work with and teach students in real time. Our camp is synchronous, or live, meaning students and counselors will be on the same Zoom calls at the same time. Does this answer your question? -
Hello! My son Ari was in the Regular Debate Camp today and I wanted to verify the student teacher ratio in breakout rooms. I can see in the Q&A that the student teacher is 4:1, but Ari says that the teacher student teacher ratio in breakout room was 6:1. I am concerned about adequate individualized attention as well as useful feedback given to the students. Can you please give a little more information about this? Thank you, Mabel Wong (Regular Debate Camp) -

Hello, the student-teacher ratio in your students's lab, as well as all our labs, is 4:1. Your student's regular debate lab has 17 campers and 5 counselors, so the ratio is closer to 3:1. The reason why your camper's group had a few more students was because certain activities require larger group environments in order to simulate a debate environment. For this reason, when students participate in these activities, they are often in larger groups with more than 4 students. However, students always have the opportunity to work in small groups and individually with counselors in breakout rooms to receive individualized attention and support, and if they feel that they would like more of this help, they can always ask their counselors who will be more than happy to provide it. -
May I know the student-teacher ratio in the class? (Regular Debate Camp) -

Hello, we have a 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio in all of our classes, which allows for individualized attention. Campers also have the opportunity to work 1 on 1 with counselors in breakout rooms. -

Yes you can, and we do recommend it! Speech sessions are during the mornings, Debate sessions are during the afternoons and during the hour inbetween sessions, campers eat lunch and have a break. -
The age group for this camp seems to be 10-16. Will the kids be separated into different groups according to their ages? Also, I see there are two sessions 6/6-6/10 and 6/13-6/17. Will they cover the same things? Thanks. (Regular Debate Camp)

Hello, the kids will be separated generally by grade within the Regular Speech and Regular Debate programs. With two sessions we aim to allow campers who wish to attend the Regular Speech and Debate programs the first week to come back for a second week for our Advanced program where they will continue building their skills with a more detailed curriculum and we enable campers who simply enjoyed the first week to come back for a second. -
Hi, What is the difference between your Regular Speech Camp and Regular Debate Camp? I have a current 6th grade son that I'm interested in enrolling for the summer camp, but wanted to know the differences in the programs. (Regular Debate Camp)

Thanks for reaching out. There are a few difference between the Debate and Speech programs. Our debate program builds on critical thinking, argumentation, and public speaking skills while campers progress to participating in a debate mini-tournament at the end of the week. In contrast, our speech program focuses even more on public speaking as well as speech writing as campers write a speech throughout the week and present it on Friday. Many campers sign up for both programs because the speech program is in the morning and the debate in the afternoon. Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any more questions. -

Hello, camp will be in person at Palo Alto High School this summer and offers programs for campers between the age range of 10-16 during the time of camp. We group our campers by age group but when registering, you may make a request to have your child placed specifically in the same lab group as a sibling should you choose. -
Hello Palo Alto Team, might you all be doing another Regular Debate Camp this summer? Ari very much would like to do another camp. :). It was challenging and engaging, and he would like to continue improving in his skills. Thank you for the quality coaching, attentive feedback, and the opportunity to spar with other debaters.
